Delhi police creates two green corridors to transfer organs for transplant

The Delhi police department established two green corridors to transfer a heart and a liver from AIIMS, Delhi, to Apollo and R&R Army hospitals for transplantation. 

 

The donors heart arrived at Apollo Hospital in 11 minutes, while the liver arrived at R&R Hospital in 8 minutes. According to doctors, the heart is only alive for 6 hours after the organ is removed, while the liver and kidneys are only alive for 12 hours. Rupachandra Singh was confirmed brain dead at AIIMS trauma centre on April 30th morning after his motorcycle was struck in the Shadipur area. Following counseling, the patient’s family agreed to donate his heart, liver, lungs, and kidneys to save several transplant recipient’s lives.

 

Dr.Aart Vij, Director of ORBO AIIMS, stated that they had approached the Delhi Traffic Control Room about establishing a green lane to transport organs to other hospitals in Delhi during high traffic hours. The heart was given to a 65-year-old man at Apollo Hospital, the liver to a year-old man at Army Hospital, one kidney to a 46-year-old man at RML Hospital, and one kidney to a 42-year-old male, and lungs were given to a 30-year-old male at AIIMS.

 

A day earlier, the Delhi and Gurgaon traffic police built a 21-kilometer green lane to carry a heart from PGI, Chandigarh, to IGI Airport and Medanta Hospital for transplant. A 20-year-old girls family donated her organs after she was confirmed brain dead, and her heart was sent to Medanta Hospital by NOTTO.
